30, Starting Over, and Betting on Myself

One less paycheck, two kids, a brand-new blog, and a whole lot of faith.

Well, this wasn’t exactly on my 2026 bingo card.

I’m 30 years old, a single mom of two, and I recently lost a source of income that made a pretty significant difference in our lives.

So, I’m officially starting over at 30.

And while I could sit here and tell you that I immediately handled it with grace, confidence, and unwavering faith… that would be a little generous.

Because the truth is, losing income when you have two little humans depending on you is scary.

There are bills to pay, groceries to buy, little shoes that somehow need replacing every other week, and approximately 47 things on my to-do list at any given moment.

But somewhere between the initial panic and my third cup of coffee, I had a thought:

What if this is the push I needed to finally build something of my own?

The Dream I’ve Been Putting Off

I’ve always been a creative person.

I’ve spent years working in marketing, making music, creating content, putting together outfits, decorating spaces, and finding approximately a million reasons to stop at a coffee shop.

And for years, I’ve had this little dream of creating a space on the internet that feels like me.

A place where I could share the things I genuinely love. Style that doesn’t require buying an entirely new wardrobe. Beauty products I actually use. The beautiful, hilarious chaos of motherhood. My faith. The little things that make ordinary life feel special.

But you know how it goes.

Life gets busy. You have babies. You move. You work. You survive some really hard seasons. And suddenly that little dream keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the list.

Until one day, life makes the decision for you.

So here we are.

Welcome to Hope Actually.

I’m Not Starting From Scratch. I’m Starting From Experience.

Something I’ve been reminding myself lately is that starting over doesn’t mean everything that came before was wasted.

I’ve spent years learning how to market businesses, tell stories, create campaigns, build brands, and connect with people.

I’ve also spent the last few years learning how to be a mom, navigate unexpected changes, stretch a dollar, find joy in the mundane, and trust God when life looks absolutely nothing like I planned.

And maybe all of those experiences weren’t random.

Maybe they’re exactly what I needed for this next chapter.

I’m not pretending to have some perfectly curated life. Most mornings involve reheating my coffee, looking for somebody’s missing shoe, and trying to remember whether I actually put mascara on both eyes.

But I do know a thing or two about making something beautiful out of what you already have.

And I think that’s worth sharing.

So, Can You Actually Make Money Doing This?

Hope with a surprised expression at her laptop, wondering whether you can make money blogging

Great question. I’ll let you know.

Seriously, though.

I’m entering this with a genuine goal of turning Hope Actually into a business.

Through blogging, affiliate links, content creation, brand partnerships, and whatever other creative opportunities come along, I want to see what’s possible when I give this dream a real chance.

And I want to be transparent about the process.

Not in a look how successful I am kind of way.

More in a hey, here’s what I’m trying, here’s what’s working, and here’s what I learned the hard way kind of way.

Because I know I’m not the only woman who’s ever found herself staring at a completely different life than the one she imagined.

Maybe you’re starting over after a divorce. Maybe you’re navigating motherhood and trying to remember who you are outside of being someone’s mom. Maybe you’ve lost a job, changed careers, or have a dream that’s been sitting on the back burner for far too long.

Whatever your version of starting over looks like, I hope this little corner of the internet reminds you that you’re allowed to begin again.

Even at 30.

Even with kids.

Even when the timing is inconvenient.

Even when you’re not entirely sure what you’re doing.

Faith Doesn’t Mean I Have It All Figured Out

Hope lying on her bed with her chin in her hand, looking at her laptop and trusting God's timing while starting over at 30

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the past few years is that trusting God doesn’t necessarily mean knowing what comes next.

Sometimes it looks like taking the next step while you’re still a little terrified.

I keep coming back to Proverbs 16:9:

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

I’ve made a lot of plans that didn’t turn out the way I expected.

Some of those changes were heartbreaking. Some were humbling. And some, looking back, turned out to be the very things that led me somewhere better.

I don’t know exactly what Hope Actually will look like six months from now.

Maybe it’ll grow into the business I’ve always dreamed of. Maybe it’ll open doors I haven’t even thought about yet. Maybe I’ll learn a whole lot along the way.

But I do know that I don’t want fear to be the reason I never tried.

And I believe God can do something meaningful with the things we’re willing to place in His hands.

Consider This My Public Attempt

So here’s the plan.

I’m going to show up.

I’m going to write the blog posts, film the outfit videos, share the coffee recommendations, talk about motherhood, and probably overshare a little along the way.

I’m going to apply what I know about SEO, affiliate marketing, Pinterest, and all the other things that currently have approximately 37 tabs open on my laptop.

I’m going to celebrate the small wins.

And I’m going to try not to let the numbers determine whether something is worth doing.

Because yes, I need this to work financially.

But I also want to build something I’m proud of. Something that feels genuine. Something that encourages other women to use what they already have, embrace the season they’re in, and believe that their story isn’t over just because a chapter ended unexpectedly.

I don’t have a five-year plan. I have a website, a vision, two kids, and a God who’s never failed me.

And honestly?

That’s enough to get started.

If You’re New Here, Hi. I’m Hope. Actually.

Hope laughing on the phone in a white lace slip dress at home in Sarasota, Florida

I’m a 30-year-old mom of two living in sunny Sarasota, Florida. I love Jesus, a good thrift find, an unnecessarily expensive coffee, singing my heart out, and putting together outfits from things I’ve owned for years.

This blog is where all of those things get to exist in one place.

A little style. A little motherhood. A little faith. A little chaos.

And now, a front-row seat to me attempting to turn this whole thing into a business.

If you’re here at the beginning, thank you. Truly.

I hope you’ll stick around.

And if you’ve been waiting for a sign to start something of your own, maybe this is it.

Here’s to starting before we’re ready.

With love,

Hope
